Standoff Ends In Suicide

Kentucky State Police are investigating an incident in the Madrid and Axtel areas of Breckinridge County that ended with a man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities were called to a residence near the intersection of Highways 401 and 259 just after 6 p.m. Tuesday where family members say 32-year-old Nevin L. Shawver was inside and was armed with a handgun and threatening to harm himself. Attempts were made to contact Shawver, who left the residence before a Special Response team arrived at the scene.
Shawver returned to the residence Wednesday morning, where he then left with a friend. Troopers were told Shawver had been dropped off at the Axtel boat dock, still armed with the gun. He was located a short time later, where one shot was fired by the suspect.
Shawver was pronounced dead at the scene by Breck Central EMS personnel.
